Hardwick White No. 5 by Farrow & Ball is a traditional grey originally created to touch up the old limewash at Hardwick Hall. Despite the name, it doesn’t look very white to most people—unless it’s contrasted with stronger shades like Off-Black. Rich, chalky, and full of character, it delivers an unsurpassed depth of colour that feels grounded and timeless.
Less blue than Lamp Room Gray, Hardwick White sits comfortably in both contemporary rooms and historic homes. Use it on walls for a classic, architectural backdrop, or on joinery for a soft, heritage-inspired grey that pairs beautifully with stone, wood, and natural textures.
Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones.
